“Today I shared the 2016 Xizihao Rarity with friends.
I have not tried it since they arrived as only 200 pieces were made.
I hoped to try it today with our friends who love teas from national protected forests.
The tea soup was fine and sweet, with layers throughout the infusions.
The cha-qi was full and present.
One friend mentioned how “Rarity” is the perfect name for this tea, and I agree.
The tea lives up to its name.
I remember in 2005 one kilo of Laobanzhang material was just 150 RMB while this year the price is close to 8000-10000 RMB per kilo.
A Tenmoku bowl that my friend Zhang You Tin brought is priced at 30000 TWD per piece while in 2005 it was 3000 - at least a ten-fold increase.
Of course there are possibilities of speculation and fame being causes but from the object’s inherent nature, there is obviously some relative value.
After all, rare things are expensive.
While there are a hundred different schools of thought among the collectors, the ability to decipher the value against its price is their biggest challenge.”
